Questions

Questions about Tokyo

What does a VPS in Tokyo cost?
The smallest plan we run in Tokyo is VPS-1 at $9.90 a month, or $0.014 an hour if you would rather not commit to a month. There are 110 plans in this region in total and the price you see on the deploy screen is the price you pay — there is no setup fee and the renewal is the same figure as the first month.
How quickly is a server in Tokyo delivered?
Minutes, not hours. The order is built automatically the moment the payment clears — the machine is created at the platform, given its address and a root password, and the details appear in your account. Nobody has to be awake for it. If a build does fail, it is retried and a person is told; you are not left refreshing a page.
Will a server in Tokyo be faster for my users there?
Usually, for a boring reason: distance is one of the things that decides round-trip time, and Tokyo is a great deal closer to a visitor in Japan than a server in another continent is. We do not publish millisecond figures, because latency depends on your visitor's network and route at least as much as on ours, and a number measured from our office would not tell you anything useful. Deploy the smallest plan by the hour, measure from where your users actually are, and destroy it if the result does not justify the move.
Do you have dedicated servers in Tokyo?
No. Our dedicated machines are built in Germany only, and we would rather say so than take an order we cannot fill here. In Tokyo the honest options are the virtual platform — including the Dedicated CPU line, where cores are pinned to your machine and never shared with another tenant — or a dedicated machine in Germany with a Tokyo instance in front of it.
Which data centre in Tokyo is it?
We do not publish the facility for any region, here or anywhere else. We buy capacity from suppliers, and naming their buildings would be publishing somebody else's commercial detail. If your procurement process requires a named facility, tell us before you order and we will say plainly whether we can satisfy it.
Can I pay by the hour in Tokyo?
Yes. Every plan in this region is metered by the hour as well as sold by the month, starting at $0.014 an hour. An hourly machine is billed for what it runs and stops costing when you destroy it, which is what makes it sensible to test the region before you commit to it.
