Users across Southeast Asia rather than one country
Singapore is where the region's networks meet. For an audience spread over Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, no single country's capital serves all of them as evenly as this does.
A first machine outside Europe or North America
If your primary is in Frankfurt or Ashburn and you want a second that fails independently of it, this is a different continent, a different jurisdiction and a different set of routes — which is the whole point of a second site.
Work that follows Asian business hours
Deployments, restores and console sessions happen inside your working day instead of somebody else's night. That matters more to a small team than a few milliseconds ever will.
A stream or a mirror that must not be metered
The Unmetered line runs here. Sustained outbound is what usually makes an Asian region expensive elsewhere, and on those plans it is simply not counted.

When to choose somewhere else

Singapore is the reflexive answer for Asia. Often it is the wrong one.

It is the region people name first, which is not the same as the region their users are nearest to. Three cases where we would point you elsewhere — including away from this page.

Your users are in India

Then deploy in Mumbai. It is the same catalogue at the same prices, and it is on the right side of a very long undersea hop. All 48 regions are on one page.

Your users are in Japan or Korea

Tokyo is the closer region and we sell it. Singapore is roughly five thousand kilometres from Tokyo — far enough that choosing it for a Japanese audience is a decision you would want a reason for, not a default.

Your users are in Europe and you want a backup

A standby on the other side of the world is a real standby, but restoring across that distance is slow, and most outages do not need a different continent to survive. A second European region is usually the better trade.

About the Singapore region specifically.

Is a server in Singapore faster for my users in Asia?
For users in Southeast Asia, usually — distance is one of the things that decides round-trip time, and Singapore is far nearer to Jakarta or Bangkok than Frankfurt is. For users in India or Japan it is often not the best answer, and we would rather say so: we sell regions in Mumbai and Tokyo too. We publish no millisecond figures for any region, because the number that matters depends on your visitors' networks and routes at least as much as on ours. Deploy the smallest plan by the hour, measure from where your users actually are, and destroy whichever loses.
Is traffic really unmetered, or unmetered until you decide otherwise?
On the Unmetered line it is genuinely uncounted: no monthly allowance, no overage line on the invoice, and no fair-use clause that throttles sustained outbound. That line exists precisely because the claim is rare and usually false. Every other line has a published transfer allowance, printed on the plan, and Singapore does not change it.
Do you have dedicated servers in Singapore?
No. The dedicated line-up is built in Germany and the United States only. If you want hardware in this region that nobody else touches, the honest answer is the Dedicated CPU line, where physical cores are pinned to your instance and no other tenant can take them — not a whole machine, but a real guarantee rather than a hopeful one.
Which data centre is it?
We do not publish the facility for any region, here or in Europe. We buy capacity from suppliers, and naming their buildings would be publishing somebody else's commercial detail. If your procurement requires a named facility, ask before you order and we will say plainly whether we can satisfy it.
Does hosting here put my data under Singapore law?
The machine is physically in the Singapore region, which is a fact about where the data sits at rest. What that means for your obligations is not something we can answer for you, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. If you have a contractual data residency requirement, send us the wording before you order rather than after.
Is the price higher because it is Asia?
No. Within a line, a plan costs the same in every region it runs in. Asia costs us more to buy in than Europe does, and we absorb that rather than publish a regional surcharge, so choosing where to deploy is a routing decision instead of a budget one.
Can I move an existing server here?
Not in place — a region is decided when the machine is built. What you can do is deploy the same plan here, move your data across, and destroy the old one. On hourly plans the overlap costs you a few hours rather than a month, which is the reason to run both at once for a day and cut over when you are satisfied.
