Order

Build your Minecraft server.

This is the same order form as our Cloud VPS page, narrowed to the city you picked above and to sizes with 2 vCPU and 4 GB of RAM or more. It opens on Windows Server 2022 and the recommended size; Linux is one choice away in the image step. Add it to the cart when the summary says what you want.

Step 01

Choose a size

Sizes are fixed shapes, not sliders. Changing size later is a support request, and a smaller size usually means a new server because a disk cannot shrink.

Step 02

Choose an image

Clean vendor images, nothing preloaded that you did not ask for. You can rebuild onto any other image from the panel at any time.

Every image is the vendor's own, unmodified. If you want the machine configured before you log in, add a start-up script below.

Step 03

Choose a term and add-ons

Terms are prepaid. Annual takes 10% off the same monthly rate — it is a discount for paying up front, not a different product.

Billing term

$30.90 charged every month. Switch to annual at any renewal.

How many

One machine. Each one you add is built separately, with its own address and root password.

Sizes

Which size for your server.

Mojang publishes no players-per-size table, so these three sizes are our reading of the official start command and the Minecraft Wiki: a small world for friends, a busy server with the 4 GB Minecraft.net's command gives it, and a large one. Prices are today's Windows Server 2022 prices, per month, in Riyadh.

What Mojang and the Minecraft Wiki say

  • The start command on the official download page is java -Xmx4G -Xms4G -jar minecraft_server.<version>.jar nogui: a 4 GB heap for the server.
  • The Minecraft Wiki recommends at least 2 GB of RAM available for a small server, says larger servers may need 4 GB, and says to reserve at least 5 GB of disk for a world that grows. A Minecraft server mostly uses one core, so the speed of a core matters more than the number of cores.
  • For Bedrock Dedicated Server, Mojang lists 4 GB of RAM and 180 MB to 1 GB of disk.
  • Neither gives a number of players per size, so we print none. Start on the recommended size, watch the server with your real world and players, and step up if it struggles.

Set up

Set up Minecraft on your server.

These steps follow Mojang's download pages and the Minecraft Wiki's server tutorial, for a Java Edition server; the last step of each covers Bedrock Dedicated Server.

Windows Server 2022

  1. Connect. Sign in to the server over Remote Desktop as Administrator.
  2. Install Java. Minecraft 26.1 and later need Java 25. Download and run the installer for the Microsoft Build of OpenJDK or Eclipse Temurin, the two builds the Minecraft Wiki names, so that java works from the command line.
  3. Get the server. Download the server jar from minecraft.net, which also means agreeing to the Minecraft EULA, and put it in a folder of its own, for example C:\minecraft.
  4. Run it once. In that folder, start it with Minecraft.net's command. It stops after writing eula.txt: open it, change eula=false to eula=true, and start it again. On a 4 GB size, give Java less, for example -Xms1024M -Xmx2048M as the wiki's own start script does.java -Xmx4G -Xms4G -jar minecraft_server.<version>.jar nogui
  5. Open the port. On the first start Windows asks whether to let OpenJDK Platform binary through the firewall; allow it, or allow port 25565 yourself. To start the server with a double-click later, put the command in a start.bat file, as the wiki shows.
  6. Settings. Set the world, max-players, white-list and online-mode in server.properties; with the whitelist on, only players on the list can connect. Players join with your server's IPv4 address.
  7. Bedrock instead. Download Bedrock Dedicated Server for Windows from minecraft.net, extract the ZIP into an empty folder, run bedrock_server.exe, and allow UDP port 19132 (and 19133 for IPv6) through the firewall.

Linux

  1. Pick Ubuntu. Choose Ubuntu 24.04 or 22.04 in the order form: the Java server runs on any of the images, but Mojang supports Bedrock Dedicated Server only on Ubuntu 22.04 or later. Connect over SSH.
  2. Install Java 25. Install a Java 25 runtime from the Microsoft Build of OpenJDK or Eclipse Temurin instructions for Ubuntu, and check java -version prints 25.
  3. Get the server. Make a folder, copy the server jar's link from minecraft.net and download it there.mkdir -p ~/minecraft && cd ~/minecraftwget -O server.jar <link to the server jar>
  4. Run it once, set eula=true in eula.txt, and run it again. A start.sh script with the same line saves typing it, as the wiki shows.java -Xmx4G -Xms4G -jar server.jar nogui
  5. Open the port. If a firewall is running on the server, allow port 25565 (or UDP 19132 and 19133 for Bedrock). Settings live in server.properties, as on Windows.
  6. Bedrock instead. Download the Ubuntu build of Bedrock Dedicated Server from minecraft.net, extract the ZIP into an empty folder and start bedrock_server as the included bedrock_server_how_to.html describes.

All of this is from Mojang's and the wiki's own pages: the Java Edition server download, the Bedrock Dedicated Server download, the wiki's server tutorial, Bedrock Dedicated Server, server.properties and Java version pages. Read them for anything beyond a first server.

The details

Minecraft server hosting, explained.

What a hosted Minecraft server is, who it is for, and what you are buying.

What a Minecraft server does

A Minecraft server keeps one world running for everyone who joins: your rules, your whitelist, your plugins or mods. Java Edition players join a Java Edition server; players on Windows Bedrock, consoles and phones join Bedrock Dedicated Server. Mojang publishes both server programs, and you run either one on this VPS.

Why a VPS instead of your own PC

A world your friends can join only while your PC is on is not much of a server. A VPS stays on, has its own dedicated IPv4 address that you give your players, and sits in a data centre in the city you choose, so you do not forward ports on a home router or share your home address. The wiki's own advice on hosting is to keep the server close to your players.

Worlds, plugins and mods

Your world is a folder on the server's disk, and the wiki says to reserve at least 5 GB for it as it grows. Plugins and mods come from third-party server software such as Paper, Fabric or Forge, which you install yourself. Each size in the table lists its disk and its monthly transfer.

Windows Server 2022 or Ubuntu

The order form opens on Windows Server 2022 with Remote Desktop access as Administrator on a dedicated IPv4. Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 are one choice away, and are the Linux images Mojang supports for Bedrock. Either way you install the server yourself: this is a self-managed VPS, not a managed game panel.

Price, renewal and payment

The monthly price you order at is the price it renews at, with no setup fee. Prices are in US dollars and taxes, where they apply, are added at checkout. You can pay by card or crypto.

How fast it is online

Servers are usually online in under an hour after the order is paid. A few sizes are built by hand by our engineers and can take longer.

Minecraft belongs to Mojang Studios and Microsoft. PartVPS is an independent hosting company and is not affiliated with or endorsed by either.

Questions

What people ask before they buy one.

Which Java version does a Minecraft server need?
Minecraft: Java Edition 26.1 and later need Java 25, according to the Minecraft Wiki's version table; from 1.20.5 up to the releases before 26.1 they need Java 21. Older Minecraft versions also run on newer Java. You only need a Java runtime, not the full development kit, and the wiki points to the Microsoft Build of OpenJDK, which it calls the official and tested build for Minecraft, and to Eclipse Temurin.
Which port does a Minecraft server use?
A Java Edition server listens on port 25565 by default, set by server-port in server.properties. Bedrock Dedicated Server uses UDP, port 19132 for IPv4 and 19133 for IPv6, set in its own server.properties. Allow the port you use through the firewall on the server; players on a port other than the default add it to the address.
Java Edition or Bedrock: which server do I need?
The one your players' game uses. Mojang's Java server download is only compatible with Minecraft: Java Edition. Bedrock Edition players, on Windows, consoles and phones, need Bedrock Dedicated Server, which Mojang publishes for Windows (Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016 and later) and for Ubuntu 22.04 or later. Both run on the machines on this page.
How much RAM does a Minecraft server need?
The Minecraft Wiki recommends at least 2 GB of RAM available to a small server and says larger servers may need 4 GB; it says a survival server with 4 to 8 players runs on most modern hardware. Minecraft.net's own start command gives the server 4 GB (-Xmx4G -Xms4G), which is why the recommended size here has 8 GB: the 4 GB for Minecraft plus room for Windows. Mojang lists 4 GB of RAM for Bedrock Dedicated Server.
Can I run Paper, Fabric, Forge or plugins?
Yes. You have Administrator on Windows or root on Linux, so you can run any server software you like. The Minecraft Wiki notes that custom server software such as Paper and Spigot, or Forge and Fabric for mods, is what most large servers use, and that Mojang does not support it, so follow each project's own instructions.
Should I run Minecraft on Windows or Linux?
Either: the Java server runs wherever Java does. Windows Server 2022 is the default here because you manage it over Remote Desktop and start the server with a double-click on a start.bat file. Pick Ubuntu if you are comfortable on a command line; for Bedrock on Linux, Mojang supports only Ubuntu 22.04 or later, so choose Ubuntu rather than Debian.
Can I upgrade the server later, or move to another city?
Sizes are fixed shapes, not sliders. Changing size later is a support request, and a smaller size usually means a new server because a disk cannot shrink. A city cannot be changed in place either: moving means building a new server in the new city and giving your players its new address. Your world folder and server.properties are plain files, so you copy them across.
Can I pay with crypto?
Yes: card or cryptocurrency (USDT, Bitcoin or Ethereum), and the server costs the same either way. Paying in crypto adds a payment fee of $1 and 5% to the invoice, which the payment page shows before you send anything. Whichever you use, the monthly price renews at the same figure.
