Windows VPS with Remote Desktop, Administrator access, from $13.90 a month

A Windows desktop that never sleeps, on a dedicated IPv4, reachable from a laptop, a phone or a tablet with the Remote Desktop client you already have. Yours as Administrator, online in under an hour, billed by the month or, where the platform allows it, by the hour.

Cheapest

The cheapest Remote Desktop server, four ways.

Each is a real row from the price sheet; Deploy opens the configurator on that machine with Windows selected.

Connecting

Remote Desktop, in three steps.

  1. Step 1

    Open a Remote Desktop client

On Windows it is already there: press Start and type Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc). On macOS, iPhone, iPad and Android install Microsoft Remote Desktop from the app store. On Linux, Remmina or xfreerdp.

  2. Step 2

Enter the address from your client area

The server's IP address is on the service page in your client area, next to the Administrator password. Port 3389 is open from the first boot; there is nothing to enable.

  3. Step 3

    Sign in as Administrator

Accept the certificate prompt the first time, then sign in as Administrator with the password we set when the machine was built. Change it, run Windows Update, and you are in.

Two things to know

Sessions, and editions.

Two sessions

Windows Server allows two administrative Remote Desktop sessions at once. That covers you and a colleague; a team sharing one machine needs Remote Desktop Services user licenses, which you bring, and probably a bigger machine.

Not a desktop Windows

This is Windows Server with the desktop experience: the same Explorer, the same Remote Desktop, the same programs. The consumer editions of Windows are not something a hosting platform may license to you, so we do not offer them.

Questions

Before you buy a Remote Desktop server.

Is this an admin RDP?
Yes. You get the Administrator account on a Windows Server that is yours alone: install what you like, add users, open ports, reboot it. It is not a shared desktop with a limited account.
How many people can connect at once?
Two. Windows Server allows two administrative Remote Desktop sessions; a third needs Remote Desktop Services with user licenses (RDS CALs) that you bring. For one or two people that is plenty; for a team it is a different product.
Is it Windows 10 or Windows 11?
Neither: it is Windows Server, which is the Windows a hosting platform is licensed to give you. It has the same desktop, the same Remote Desktop client on your side and runs the same programs; what it lacks is the consumer store and games. A desktop edition of Windows is not sold here.
Can I pay with crypto?
Yes. Checkout takes cards and crypto; the price is the same either way and the machine is delivered the same way.
Is there a free trial?
No. Where the platform bills by the hour you can do better than a trial: deploy C2-4 in Nuremberg for $0.019/hr, use it, destroy it, and pay for those hours.
What can I run on it?
Browsers, office software, trading terminals, bots, .NET services, remote-work tools, anything that runs on Windows without a graphics card. What it cannot do: games that need a GPU, Android emulators and Hyper-V, which need hardware a VPS does not expose.
Can I reset the password if I lose it?
On some platforms from the client area; on others through a support ticket; on one of them only by reinstalling the machine. The city page states the rule for each size. Keep the Administrator password in a password manager on day one.
Which city should I pick?
The one nearest the people who will sit in front of the desktop, or the one whose address the service you use expects. Every city's own price is on the Windows page; the machine is the same.
