The Dedicated CPU line pins physical cores to your machine. Nothing else on the host can take them, so performance does not depend on what your neighbours are doing. DC-8 is the entry point: two reserved cores for work that runs flat out and has to finish on schedule.

A CI runner: Build times stop varying by time of day, which is the whole point of reserving cores in the first place.
A game server: Tick rates hold steady under load because no other tenant can steal the core mid-frame.
Video or audio encoding: Long jobs at 100% CPU are exactly the workload shared vCPU is not sold for.

DC-8 sits on the Dedicated CPU line. Cores on this line are pinned to your machine and never shared, so sustained load runs at the same speed at 3pm as it does at 3am.

Why does DC-8 cost more than VPS-4 with fewer cores?

You are paying for exclusivity, not for the count. Two pinned cores at $49.90 can be relied on for hours; four shared cores at $23.90 are quicker in bursts and unpredictable under sustained load.

Does pinning change anything else about the server?

No. Same KVM platform, same images, same local NVMe, same network, same panel. The only difference is that the cores are reserved.
