HF-4: 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB NVMe

HF-4 is VPS-4's shape on quicker hosts with 60% more disk. It suits a production application whose response time is dominated by one thread of work — rendering a page, serializing a response, running a query plan — rather than by how many requests it can run in parallel.

Configure and deploy

Region and image are chosen on the configurator, and the price does not change with either.

Scope

What the price covers, and what it does not.

HF-4 is a self-managed server. The list on the right is not a gap we intend to fill later — it is the other product.

In the price

  • Full root access on a KVM virtual machine with its own kernel
  • One dedicated IPv4 for the life of the server, plus a /64 of IPv6
  • Local NVMe attached to the host, with no storage network in between
  • On-demand snapshots, free to take, restorable in place or into another region
  • Browser console straight to the machine for when SSH is the thing that broke
  • Rebuild onto any image in about a minute, keeping the same IP address
  • Private networking inside a region that does not count against transfer
  • Resize up in place; the same REST API the control panel uses

Not in the price

  • Nobody patches the operating system but you — this is a self-managed server
  • No Windows images: every image we ship is Linux
  • We do not resell control panel licences (cPanel, Plesk or otherwise)
  • A host failure is a restore from your latest snapshot or backup, not a live migration
  • Regions cannot be changed in place; moving means a new server and a DNS cutover
  • Prepaid terms are not pro-rated if you destroy the server early

Suited to

Where HF-4 is the right size.

Two fast cores, 4 GB, and 128 GB of NVMe.

A commerce front end
Cart and checkout paths are hard to cache and sensitive to per-request time, which is what clock speed buys you.
A rendering or PDF service
Headless browsers and document generators are single-threaded per job and disk-hungry. 128 GB helps.
A busy small database
Query latency on a modest dataset improves with faster cores and local NVMe far more than with extra vCPU.

Line

HF-4 sits on the High frequency line. Cores on this line are shared with other tenants on the same host. Bursts are quick; an hour pinned at 100% is not something a shared core can promise.

Questions

About HF-4 specifically.

These are the questions this plan actually gets, answered without the marketing round-off.

HF-4 or VPS-4?
HF-4 is $26.90 for two fast cores and 4 GB. VPS-4 is $23.90 for four ordinary cores and 8 GB. Choose HF-4 if requests are slow one at a time, VPS-4 if you have plenty of them at once.
Why does the High frequency line have more disk?
The hosts it runs on are built with more NVMe per gigabyte of RAM, so we pass that on rather than hold it back as an upsell.
