DC-16: 4 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 160 GB NVMe

DC-16 is the size most teams land on when they move a constant workload off shared cores. Four reserved cores and 16 GB handle a production application with background processing that never really stops, at a price that is still a fraction of a whole machine.

Configure and deploy

Region and image are chosen on the configurator, and the price does not change with either.

Scope

What the price covers, and what it does not.

DC-16 is a self-managed server. The list on the right is not a gap we intend to fill later — it is the other product.

In the price

  • Full root access on a KVM virtual machine with its own kernel
  • One dedicated IPv4 for the life of the server, plus a /64 of IPv6
  • Local NVMe attached to the host, with no storage network in between
  • On-demand snapshots, free to take, restorable in place or into another region
  • Browser console straight to the machine for when SSH is the thing that broke
  • Rebuild onto any image in about a minute, keeping the same IP address
  • Private networking inside a region that does not count against transfer
  • Resize up in place; the same REST API the control panel uses

Not in the price

  • Nobody patches the operating system but you — this is a self-managed server
  • No Windows images: every image we ship is Linux
  • We do not resell control panel licences (cPanel, Plesk or otherwise)
  • A host failure is a restore from your latest snapshot or backup, not a live migration
  • Regions cannot be changed in place; moving means a new server and a DNS cutover
  • Prepaid terms are not pro-rated if you destroy the server early

Suited to

Where DC-16 is the right size.

Four pinned cores, 16 GB, 160 GB of NVMe.

Always-on background workers
Queues that are never empty are the clearest case for pinned cores: the work is constant, so the capacity should be too.
A database under steady write load
Predictable CPU means predictable commit latency, which is harder to get from a shared core.
A fleet of CI runners
Four cores split across two or three concurrent jobs, with build times you can actually put in a dashboard.

Line

DC-16 sits on the Dedicated CPU line. Cores on this line are pinned to your machine and never shared, so sustained load runs at the same speed at 3pm as it does at 3am.

Questions

About DC-16 specifically.

These are the questions this plan actually gets, answered without the marketing round-off.

Is a dedicated server better value than DC-16?
Above roughly $60 a month the arithmetic starts to favour metal on raw cores — DS-1 is $133.90 a month plus a one-off $49.00 for 20 threads and 64 GB. What you lose is the panel-driven resize, the snapshot, and provisioning in about a minute. The comparison page lays both sides out.
Can I resize between lines?
Resizing up within a line is done in place. Moving between lines changes the host shape, so it is a rebuild — take a snapshot, deploy the new plan from it, cut over.
