What Germany decides

A country is a jurisdiction, not a data sheet.

People choose a German build for one of two reasons: EU residency, or because their customers expect it. Here is exactly how far each of those goes.

Residency, precisely

The machine and its drives are in Germany, an EU member state. Nothing about the hardware moves data anywhere else. What you do with backups, logs and third-party APIs is yours, and no build location can make those compliant on your behalf.

Single tenancy, precisely

No hypervisor of ours, no neighbours, no oversubscription. Full hardware access means you can install your own hypervisor or container platform and carve the machine up yourself. We do not require an agent on it.

What we will not state

The facility, the city, the drive IOPS, or a latency figure to anywhere. Those are either things we are not told or things we have not measured ourselves, and printing them would be inventing a specification.

Running both

A German machine and a Frankfurt instance are in one country, not one network.

This is the mistake worth avoiding before you design the system rather than after.

Same country

Both are in Germany, so both answer an EU-residency question the same way, and both appear on one invoice under one account.

Different products

Metal is sold by country; the cloud is sold by region. We are not told which city the build lands in, so “next to each other” is not something you can rely on.

Public path between them

No shared private network. Traffic between the two goes over the internet and is counted on the VPS side, outbound only. Replicate on a schedule rather than chatting constantly.

About German builds specifically.

Is the server in Frankfurt?

We do not know, and we would not publish it if we did. Dedicated machines are sold at country level: the commitment is Germany, and which city or facility a particular build lands in is not something our suppliers tell us in a form we could pass on as a promise. If your procurement requires a named site, ask before ordering and you will get a plain yes or no.

Can my German dedicated server share a private network with my Frankfurt VPS?

No. Private networking is a feature of the virtual platform and works between your own instances inside a single region. Metal is a separate product in a country. Traffic between the two crosses the public internet, and the outbound side counts against the VPS transfer allowance — the metal side is unmetered, so it does not count there.

Does a German server satisfy EU data residency?

For the location question, yes: Germany is an EU member state, so the data at rest is inside the Union. That is the only part of compliance a country can decide for you. Backups you copy elsewhere, third-party services your application calls and your own lawful basis for processing are all outside what a build location can settle.

How many IPv4 addresses do I get?

One included, plus a /64 of IPv6. Additional IPv4 addresses are available on request with a justification — that is a registry requirement rather than a sales tactic, and the request needs to say what the addresses are for.

Can I run Windows on it?

We do not sell Windows Server licensing with any machine, and the images we support are Linux. The hardware is yours, but nothing in the price covers a Windows licence and our support does not extend to administering one.

Nuremberg or Falkenstein?

The same machines, the same prices, the same 1 Gbit unmetered uplink and the same one-business-day commitment, in two German facilities. Choose by where the rest of your estate already sits, or by which of our cloud regions you plan to run alongside it. We do not publish routing data that would let us claim one is faster than the other, so we are not going to.
