Choose a size

Sizes are fixed shapes, not sliders. Changing size later is a support request, and a smaller size usually means a new server because a disk cannot shrink.

Choose an image

Clean vendor images, nothing preloaded that you did not ask for. You can rebuild onto any other image from the panel at any time.

Every image is the vendor's own, unmodified. If you want the machine configured before you log in, add a start-up script below.

Choose a term and add-ons

Terms are prepaid. Annual takes 10% off the same monthly rate — it is a discount for paying up front, not a different product.

What NinjaTrader says

  • From NinjaTrader's system requirements: minimum Windows 11 or Windows Server 2016 or later, a 1 GHz 64-bit processor, 2 GB of RAM and .NET Framework 4.8; recommended a 2 GHz quad-core processor, 8 GB of RAM and an SSD.
  • NinjaTrader says it uses all available CPU cores, and that extra memory helps strategy optimisations in proportion to the number of cores.
  • Windows Server itself needs memory too, so our smallest size is 4 GB, and the middle row is NinjaTrader's own recommendation.
  • A VPS has no graphics card. Windows then draws DirectX with its software renderer, WARP, on the processor, which Microsoft says is not a replacement for graphics hardware; more cores keep charts smooth.

Two different things are sold to futures traders, and it helps to know which one you need.

What this VPS is for

NinjaTrader running all day on a server that does not sleep, lose power or drop Wi-Fi: live strategies, alerts and charts you reach from any device over Remote Desktop.

What co-location is for

Your own hardware in the exchange's data centre for the lowest possible latency. CME's is in Aurora, Illinois, and we do not sell that.

We have not measured latency from our cities to CME, so we do not publish a figure. If the milliseconds matter to you, an hourly server in two cities, tested from inside NinjaTrader, settles it in an evening.

Set up

From payment to NinjaTrader running.

Done once, as soon as the server is ready. Setup help is available on request through a ticket.

  1. Connect. When the server is ready you get an email; open Remote Desktop and sign in with the IP address, the user name Administrator and the password from your client area.
  2. Download NinjaTrader. In the server's browser, go to NinjaTrader's website, download NinjaTrader Desktop and run the installer.
  3. Sign in. Start NinjaTrader and sign in with your own NinjaTrader account, then connect your data and brokerage connection as you do on your PC.
  4. Bring your workspace. Export your workspaces, indicators and strategies on your PC with NinjaTrader's export tools and import them on the server, or rebuild them there.
  5. Leave the right way. Close the Remote Desktop window to disconnect: NinjaTrader keeps running. Signing out of Windows closes it.

Windows Server allows two Remote Desktop connections at once without extra licenses, according to Microsoft, so you and one other person can look at the same server.

Questions

What traders ask before they buy a NinjaTrader VPS.

Does NinjaTrader run on Windows Server?
Yes. NinjaTrader's own requirements list "Windows 11, Windows Server 2016 or later 64-bit". Our servers run Windows Server 2022, so NinjaTrader Desktop installs and runs as it does on a PC.
How much RAM does NinjaTrader need on a VPS?
NinjaTrader's minimum is 2 GB and its recommendation is 8 GB with a quad-core processor. Windows Server needs part of that memory for itself, so we start at 4 GB for one workspace and recommend 4 vCPU and 8 GB, NinjaTrader's own figure. Strategy optimisation uses every core and more memory, which is what the 8 vCPU size is for.
Is the server in Chicago, next to CME?
No, and we say so plainly. CME's matching engines are in its data centre in Aurora, Illinois, and we do not sell Windows servers in Chicago today. Our North American Windows cities are New York, Washington, Ashburn. A VPS keeps NinjaTrader running all day with a steady connection; if you need the lowest possible latency to CME, that is co-location, a different product.
Does a VPS without a graphics card run NinjaTrader charts?
Yes. NinjaTrader recommends a DirectX 10 graphics card; a VPS has none, so Windows draws the charts with its built-in software renderer, WARP, on the processor cores. Microsoft is clear that this is not as fast as a graphics card, which is one more reason to give NinjaTrader four cores.
Do you install NinjaTrader for me?
No. You download NinjaTrader from NinjaTrader's website and sign in with your own account, which keeps your login yours alone. The steps below take a few minutes. Setup help is available on request through a ticket.
Is the Windows license included?
It depends on the city. Where a city card says "Bring your own Windows license", the machine runs Windows Server 2022 as a 180-day evaluation and you activate it with your own key; that is why it costs less. The licensing page explains both.
Can I try it before paying for a month?
In cities billed by the hour, yes: deploy a server, run NinjaTrader for a session, destroy it and pay for those hours. The order form shows whether the city you picked bills by the hour.
How fast do I get the server after paying?
Usually in under an hour after the order is paid. A few sizes are built by hand by our engineers and can take longer. The address and the Administrator password appear in your client area, and you get an email.
Can I pay with crypto?
Yes: card or cryptocurrency (USDT, Bitcoin or Ethereum), and the server costs the same either way. Paying in crypto adds a payment fee of $1 and 5% to the invoice, which the payment page shows before you send anything. Whichever you use, the monthly price renews at the same figure.
