Port 25 open

Outbound port 25 is open on the network these machines sit on, so your server hands mail to the recipient's mail exchanger itself. Ports 587 and 465 are open too, for the clients that submit mail to you.

Reverse DNS, set for you

Open a ticket with the hostname you want and we set the PTR record on your address. It is the one record that lives on our side rather than in your DNS, and the one most receiving servers check first.

IPv4 included

A dedicated IPv4 that is yours alone, root from the first minute, and a clean image with nothing of ours left on it. Mailcow, iRedMail, Mail-in-a-Box or plain Postfix install from their own documentation. Online in under an hour.

Deliverability

Four records. We set one, you publish three.

An open port gets your mail out of the building; these records are what the receiving server reads before it decides whether to accept it.

PTR: set by us

The reverse record on your IPv4, pointing at your mail server's hostname. Tell us the hostname in a ticket and we set it; the forward record for that hostname, pointing back at the address, is yours to publish.

SPF: yours to publish

A TXT record on your domain naming the addresses allowed to send mail for it. Put this server's IPv4 in it. It lives in your DNS, with whoever hosts your domain's zone.

DKIM: yours to publish

Your mail server signs each outgoing message with a private key; the matching public key goes in a TXT record on your domain so receivers can check the signature. The mail stack you install generates the pair and prints the record for you.

DMARC: yours to publish

A TXT record that tells receivers what to do with a message that fails SPF and DKIM, and where to send their reports. Start with a monitoring policy, read the reports, then tighten it.

Your own mail, to people who asked for it

These machines are for your own transactional and business mail: your application's notifications, your company's mailboxes, your customers' receipts. Bulk, cold or bought-list mail is not what they are for, and the acceptable use policy says so. One blacklisted address can take a whole account with it, and other customers live on that account.

Questions

A mail server in Denver, answered.

How much does a mail server VPS in Denver cost?
From $20.90 a month for GL4-8 (4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 75 GB disk). The figure on this page is the figure the cart charges, and the renewal price is the order price.
Is outbound port 25 really open in Denver?
Yes, on every machine listed on this page. Our Denver region runs on the one platform we use where the network does not block it, and a customer has been running their own mail server on exactly this setup since August. Elsewhere in our fleet port 25 is blocked upstream, which is why those cities are not on the mail-ready list.
Will you set the reverse DNS (PTR) record?
Yes. Most receiving servers reject or junk mail from an address whose PTR does not match its hostname, so open a ticket with the hostname you want and we set it on the address. SPF, DKIM and DMARC live in your own domain's DNS and stay yours to publish and control.
What size do I need?
A full mail stack with spam filtering wants memory more than cores. GL4-8, at 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM and 75 GB of disk for $20.90 a month, is the size on offer here; a simple Postfix relay runs on it with room to spare.
Can I send bulk or marketing email from Denver?
No. These machines are for your own transactional and business mail, to people who asked for it. Cold outreach and bought lists get the address blacklisted within days and put the account the machine sits on at risk, along with other customers' servers. If bulk mail is what you need, use a bulk sender who is built for it.
Is this monthly only?
Yes. In Denver the platform bills us by the month, so these sizes are sold by the month, and the renewal price is the order price.

Port 25 is also open in Vint Hill (VA), Hillsboro (OR), Beauharnois, New York, Miami, Seattle.
