What a .com really costs.
A .com is $13.49 here, and $13.49 every year after. Straight answer
Why $13.49 and not $10.44.
The registry charges every registrar about the same for a .com each year. Registrars below that figure either sell at cost, as Cloudflare does, or make it back at renewal, as the promotion-led registrars do. We buy through a registrar rather than from the registry, so we cannot sell at wholesale. What we can do is sell one price, keep it the same at renewal, include privacy, take crypto, and print the competition beside it.
If the lowest possible number matters most to you and you are happy to run your DNS at Cloudflare, that is the cheaper choice and this page says so. If you want a domain beside the server it points at, one invoice, and a renewal you never have to think about, that is what $13.49 a year buys here.
